Meet Abimbola Fafiolu: EdTech Innovator Transforming Personalized Learning
Meet Abimbola, the EdTech innovator behind Ingenious Learners Academy (ILA), a fast-growing tutoring platform using technology and data to personalize learning for students from Grades 1–12. With a background spanning product management, IT, education, and data analytics, Abimbola is redefining what modern learning can look like. In this interview, she shares her journey from Nigeria to Canada, the turning-point moments that sparked her passion for educational technology, the challenges she overcame, and the digital tools she’s building to help students learn smarter. Her story is a powerful reminder of how technology, curiosity, and purpose can come together to transform education.
Tell us what you currently do
I’m the Founder and Director of Ingenious Learners Academy (ILA), where we use technology to help students in Grades 1–12 excel in Math, Reading, and Writing. My career spans product management, IT support, and now EdTech, all rooted in using technology to improve how students learn.
At ILA, we track progress with digital tools, set measurable goals, and keep parents informed. I’m also expanding my skills through Data Analytics to make learning even more personalized and data-driven.
Turning-Point Moment
My defining career moment was realizing that technology could transform the way children learn. After seeing how businesses used tech to improve results, I asked myself, “Why can’t education do the same?”. That question sparked the creation of ILA and led me to merge my passions for business, technology, and education into one purpose-driven path.
Early Setbacks & Self-Discovery
When I moved to Canada, it took six months to land my first role, a minimum-wage IT Assistant job. It felt like a setback, but it opened my eyes to how technology powers smarter decision-making. Instead of waiting for a “perfect” job, I built my own solution: Ingenious Learners Academy. What felt like a low point became the push that launched my most meaningful work.
Adaptation & Learning
A core lesson in my journey is staying comfortable with the uncomfortable. I’m a lifelong learner a mindset my father instilled early and one confirmed when my CliftonStrengths showed “Learner” as one of my top strengths. Whether exploring data analytics or new AI tools, I adapt by staying curious. To me, relevance in tech isn’t just about keeping up, it’s about continuously growing.
Mentorship & Community
Finding the right community has been a game-changer. CITI helped me align my tech background with my passion for education. A key moment came from a one-on-one session with Matthew Hall, who showed me how to map my ideas using tech. That clarity reignited my confidence. The CITI community keeps me inspired, seeing others grow reminds me that we rise by learning and building together.
Any exciting projects you’re working on?
I’m currently building digital learning resources for ILA, interactive math and literacy tools that students can access online, with real-time progress tracking for parents.
I’m also diving deeper into data analytics to understand learning patterns and improve outcomes. Education is evolving, and I want to help shape tools that make learning more personalized, inclusive, and impactful.
Vision / Future Self
In the next 3–5 years, I want to help shape the future of EdTech. My vision is to expand ILA into a global platform powered by data, AI, and adaptive learning.
I hope to create tools that highlight each child’s strengths and learning needs, support educators, and make personalized learning accessible to all.
I also want to mentor more women and educators transitioning into tech, proving that reinvention is always possible. Ultimately, I aim to be a thought leader at the intersection of education, technology, and human-centered innovation.
